Overview
NPC Reactions is an editorial name for how Leonida's people push back. Nelson said residents are not all submissive, other people may be armed, and the player is no longer the only dangerous person in the street besides the police.
What is confirmed
- Pedestrian height and body-shape variety is much larger than previous Rockstar games; earlier titles had around two height variations.
- When stealing an occupied car, shouting for the driver to get out sometimes works; sometimes it does not, and they may shoot. Shooting back affects Criminal Profile.
- Walking with a gun in hand can make people leave or become aggressive; a slung long gun causes less panic.
- Nelson said the NPC interaction system is an evolution of Red Dead Redemption 2: people notice eavesdropping and following too closely.
- Criminal Profile aggression is intended to make the surrounding world more aggressive in return.
How it appears to work
World reaction is a bundle of carrying rules, carjacking outcomes, conversation awareness, and profile-driven aggression — not a single named Rockstar consumer feature.
What remains unknown
- How common armed civilians are, and how often they initiate violence, is not quantified.
- A public list of greet/taunt/defuse prompts is not provided in first-party copy reviewed here.
