Weapon Carrying & Storage

Developer-confirmed GTA VI weapon carrying: long guns are no longer invisible. Store them in Ammu-Nation lockers or vehicle trunks. NPCs react more to a gun in hand than to a slung long gun.

Overview

Weapon Carrying & Storage is an editorial name for GTA VI's visible-weapon rules. Nelson said long guns are no longer treated as invisible, and that this is the first GTA where weapons cannot simply be concealed in a magic inventory.

What is confirmed

  • Long guns must be managed at Ammu-Nation lockers (present in every Ammu-Nation) or stored in a personal vehicle.
  • Guns can also go in the trunk of any car, including a stolen one, for as long as that vehicle remains available.
  • Owned guns remain stored in a personal vehicle trunk or the Ammu-Nation armory, so discarding a gun during an escape does not permanently delete owned weapons.
  • Walking with a gun drawn makes people uncomfortable; they may leave or react aggressively. Carrying one long gun without it in hand is described as causing less commotion.
  • Ammu-Nation stores can sell location-exclusive guns, and customization options are described as broader than before.

How it appears to work

The design is meant to support a fugitive couple staying hidden: openly walking the street with a gun has consequences, but it is still allowed. NPC weapon reaction sits alongside the carrying rules — see NPC Reactions.

What remains unknown

  • Exact carried-inventory limits for small arms are not published as a number.
  • A full public list of Ammu-Nation exclusive weapons is not available.
